Who are these guys!
Peter and John were fishing clients in late August 2024.
This story is legendary…
Over the years I have had fishermen – paying customers – do all sorts of tasks in Kyuquot. Brain surgeon Brian cutting my lawn, accountant Bas rolling a huge water storage tank up a 45 degree slope 200 yards through the forest!! Tom and Linda sending Lynn, the girls and me to Morocco. So many memories of truly fantastic clients, so truly generous.
BUT Peter and John went over the top.
Guide Dave had an inexplicable wiring fire in his boat “Y-Knot” one evening. Time 10:30 pm. Thank goodness he was on board and put the flames out. But the wiring was cooked and the boat rendered inoperable. AND we were 12 hours travel away from professional electrical assistance. On top of that we had 6 days of guiding in the coming days!
Dave was stuck, as was I.
The following morning, I had some admin work to do. Tracy and Emily, who had been fishing with Dave, aided hugely with a no fuss, “we don’t need to go fishing” statement. Enter Saints Peter and John! They were fishing with Jeremy but in an understated way said “I think we can help”. So, it came to be that Jeremy took out my clients Ellen and Cal, with Peter and John’s “project” proceeding with me on the phone (coordinating). As the repairs proceeded, parts were needed. I was on the phone with incoming clients to pickup those necessary parts in Campbell River.
6 am and the fishing boats go out and the Saints elect to help Dave with his huge pickle. Pissing down rain and a back deck, lay on your back job, …. ugly conditions. “Tenacious” best describes their performance. The other boats came back from fishing and the Saints, now soaking wet, kept at it.
Brunch served (can’t remember but I hope they ate) and back at it. Change over day and all the clients then left with their packed fish. BUT the Saints refused to depart until the “Y Knot” was operating. 2 hours behind the rest but stay they did…. With a ferry to catch and frozen fish to deal with, plus a long drive. Did I mention soaking wet?
They got the job done and Dave was set.
And we will never forget.
